Recognising the Power of Women in Sport

The Her Sport Awards presented by Lidl Ireland shine a spotlight on the individuals and communities shaping a better, more equal sporting future. From world-class competitors who deliver unforgettable moments on the global stage to grassroots leaders breaking barriers in their communities, the awards honour excellence, leadership and impact across Irish sport.

As the platform driving visibility, representation and opportunity for women and girls in sport, Her Sport continues to champion stories that too often go untold – ensuring the athletes and trailblazers of today inspire the next generation.

A Landmark Year for Women’s Sport

2025 was a defining year both globally and here at home. Irish women delivered outstanding performances across multiple disciplines – earning international medals, breaking records and inspiring the nation.

Meanwhile, fan engagement and media interest soared to new heights, proving that women’s sport is not an emerging market – it is here, growing, and unstoppable.

Yet challenges remain. Girls continue to drop out of sport at alarming rates, visibility gaps persist, and many role models still go unrecognised.

The Her Sport Awards exist to change that. By celebrating leaders, elevating their voices, and telling their stories, these awards help ensure women and girls see a place for themselves in sport – on the pitch, track, court, boardroom, studio and everywhere in between.

Whether it’s a breakthrough international performance, a grassroots hero creating opportunity in their community, or a team who lifted the nation – now is your chance to recognise the women who make sport better for everyone.

A Movement for Visibility and Equality

Speaking on the opening of nominations, Niamh Tallon, Founder of Her Sport, said:

“One of the things I’m most proud of is leading the cultural change to make sport inclusive, so that women’s sport gets the same level of attention as men’s sport, and boys and girls can grow up with equal opportunities to thrive in sport. Her Sport exists because there is inequality in sport.”

As we enter the sixth year of the Her Sport Awards presented by Lidl Ireland, the mission remains clear: spotlight role models, inspire girls to stay in sport, and push for a level playing field – in coverage, opportunity and recognition.
