Ciara Mageean 1500M Final: What You Need To Know

Irish record setter Ciara Mageean is through to the 1500 World Championship final, tonight, August 22, at 20:30 Irish Standard Time (IST).

Mageean is the only Irish competitor that made it through to the 1500m final. The 31-year old is currently ranked third in the world, according to World Athletics. Her personal best is 3:56.63, but her season best is 3:58.28.

Mageean placed third in her heat during the first round of the 1500m heats with a time of 4:03.52, sending her to the semi-final. She then placed third in heat one of the semi final with a time of 4:02.70. She was 14th overall.

Among the 11 other athletes in the final, Mageean goes in ranked sixth fastest based on her lifetime best. The favored winner of the race is Olympic and World champion and recent world record holder Faith Kipyegon. Kipyegon holds the world record for the 1500m, one mile, and 5000m.

Mageean is a European Championships Bronze and silver medalist, seven time National champion, three time National Indoor champion, and Commonwealth Games Silver medallist. She holds the Irish national record for the 800 meters (1:59.27), 1000 meters (2:31.06), 1500 meters (3:56.63) and One Mile (4:14.58- which she broke last month, on July 21). Mageean also holds the indoor 1500m (4:06.42)  and one mile (4:28.31) records.
