Upset win for Sligo Rovers over Bohemians in FAI Cup Quarterfinals

Sligo Rovers are through to the semi-finals of the FAI Cup after an upset 1-0 win over Bohemians, whom they had twice been defeated by this season and who are ranked fifth in the league, 23 points ahead of second-from-the-bottom Sligo.

Elsewhere Shelbourne continued their title defence with a come-from-behind win over DLR Waves, while Athlone Town progressed after winning a penalty shootout with Peamount United.

Though Sligo have just one league win to show for the season, Emma Hansberry’s goal with Jodie Loughrey’s assist in the 77th minute came through when it counted at Dalymount Park.

Meanwhile in the 27th minute of the Shelbourne-DLR Waves clash Meagan Smith-Lynch equalised Freya Roche’s earlier 8th minute goal. DLR forewent claiming the lead again when Michelle Noonan missed a penalty just before half-time, and Morgan Rees scored the winner for Shelbourne in the 65th minute.

There was nothing to separate Peamount and Athlone Town before the 3-2 shootout allowed last year’s finalists Athlone Town to claim their semi-final spot, with Katie Keane stopping Chloe Moloney in the decisive moment.
