Kilkenny command Camogie All-Star awards as Gaule collects player of the year

The 17th annual Camogie Association all-star awards took place on Saturday as the virtual ceremony transpired via their Facebook and Youtube channels.

Presented by Killian Whelan and broadcast across the globe the awards reflected on the 2020 camogie season that saw Kilkenny emerge victorious and get their hands on the O’Duffy cup for the first time in four years.

Having lost the three previous All Ireland finals The Cats were determined to claim the title this year and have certainly been recognised for their tremendous accomplishments.

Denise Gaule’s performances throughout the campaign and also her 57th minute match winning penalty goal was testament to Kilkenny’s courage and conviction and as a result she she was named the Senior Player’s Player of the Year by her peers.

The man at the helm of the team Brian Dowling also picked up his first Manager of the Year award for his respective efforts.

The girls in amber and black didn’t stop there as they also compiled five more all-stars in addition to Gaule’s as Claire Phelan, Davina Tobin, Grace Walsh, Miriam Walsh and Anne Dalton also were acknowledged for their excellence throughout the championship.

To complete the Senior team of the year defeated finalists Galway were entrusted with two spots given to Shauna Healy and Orlaith McGrath.

Semi-finalists Cork and Tipperary made up the bulk of the remaining positions with a cumulative 3 players while Waterford’s Niamh Rockett rounded off the bunch.

Promising young players were also applauded for their crusade’s in 2020 in the form of the Soaring Stars team with Ulster teams dominating the proceedings in six awards for Down, three for Antrim, two for Armagh and one for Cavan.

Down’s Niamh Mallon was also named Intermediate Player’s Player of the Year while the Junior award went to Armagh’s Ciara Donnelly.
