Galway United forward Emma Doherty has been crowned the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division Player of the Month for March 2025, following a standout run of form that has helped propel her side into the early title conversation.
The Donegal native netted three goals in as many games during the month, including a well-taken brace against DLR Waves and a crucial match-winning strike against Shamrock Rovers at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Doherty, who first claimed this accolade back in June/July 2022 while making her mark with Sligo Rovers, has quickly found her rhythm with the Tribeswomen and is now a central figure in their attack.
“I didn’t expected to be nominated (for Player of the Month), so when I got the call that I had won I was shocked. It’s a testament of how Galway are doing that I was nominated and I’m just the lucky one picked out as it is the team who should be getting the credit,” said Doherty.
With Galway United riding high after lifting the All-Island Cup last season, Doherty believes her side has the hunger to go one step further in 2025.
“Every team wants to win the League but I think we have the hunger from last year, when we won the All-Island Cup, to try to go on and do it this year. It’s important that we take it game by game and don’t focus too much on the League but that is our aim.”
Doherty beat out stiff competition to land the monthly honour, edging out Shelbourne midfielder Aoibheann Clancy and Treaty United’s rising star Isabella Flocchini.
