Patterson Takes Victory & Adeleke Sets U20 Record

University of Texas’ latest recruits Davicia Patterson and Rhasidat Adeleke both impressed at the Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship which took place at the Texas Tech’s Sports Performance Centre.

Patterson claimed victory in the 600-yard run while Rhasidat Adeleke broke the Irish U20 400m indoor record twice in one day.

Belfast’s Patterson qualified for the 600-yard final as the fastest qualifier with a time of 1:20.46. In the final, the Beechmount Harriers runner blitzed her way to her first Big 12 title with a brisk time of 1:18.85. Patterson’s time was fifth-best in Texas’ school’s history and was the first time anyone hit the 1:18 mark since Olympian Courney Okolo did so in 2015. It was also a personal best for the current U20 Irish 400m outdoor national record holder.

Early in January, Patterson ran a 400m indoor PB of 54.18 in her season opener for Texas.

Also competing at the Big 12 Indoors was Tallaght AC’s Rhasidat Adeleke. In the 400m indoor heats, Adeleke posted a PB run of 54.14 to break the Irish U20 400m indoor record.

In the final, the 2019 double European Youth Olympics 100m and 200m champion, clocked 53.44 to break the record once more. The 18-year old’s time puts her up to 3rd as the fastest U20 in Europe this year and ranks as the 16th on the European U20 indoor-all-time list.

Adeleke specialises in the 100m and 200m sprint events which makes her 400m time even more impressive.
