Taylor vs Cameron III has been in the works since the Bray boxer avenged the Northampton fighter back in November to poise a trilogy for the ages, with the meantime’s speculation mostly populated with where the third instalment might take place.

While that particular detail looks to be all but officially ironed out, what has emerged this week is that a date has been set for when the two will battle it out once again, and it looks to be decided - May 25th 2024.

Chantelle Cameron had famously become the first boxer to beat Katie Taylor in her professional career last May, although the Irish woman set the record straight between them come the end of 2023, and immediately there were calls for the rematch to be staged in one of the country’s most iconic sporting venues; Croke Park.

However, last week the possibility of that seemed to be effectively knocked off the table, with Minister for Sport Thomas Byrne commenting that the Government hadn’t engaged in any negotiations with promoters so far this year, despite insinuations of such talks by Croke Park Stadium Director Peter McKenna recently.

This comes as Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn remains staunch in his position that they wouldn’t be willing to pay the price on offer by Croke Park for the fight on their own, and instead would need supplementary funding from the government in order to make the fight happen there.

With that all said, Cameron confirmed this week that the fight will still take place in Ireland, although at the 3Arena instead of Croke Park.

She also mentioned that the purse split is still too yet to be finalised.

"Me and Katie both want the fight, it's just to do with us getting paid the correct money. Croke Park’s not happening, it’s gonna be at the 3Arena," Cameron told the The London Independent.

Other factors to consider with Taylor vs Cameron III

Then Cameron took the opportunity to cast doubt on the objectivity of the referring in her last encounter with Taylor, explaining that this time she would “like a fair fight.”

“I beat her the first time and I think I beat her convincingly. The second fight, she beat me, but do I think the referee gave her a little bit of help? Yeah, I do, because of the headbutts, the holding, everything that was going on,” she said.

"[That's] my honest opinion, but there is no frustration, because she’s the champion.

“I’ve got to do what any challenger has to do: go to her backyard and snatch the belts back. That’s my plan."

With that intention now set in motion given a fight date has been set, it remains to be seen who will emerge as the ultimate victor the next time around.
