Stewart's incredible feat was achieved as she contributed 40 points to secure a narrow 94-93 victory over the Dallas Wings. This remarkable milestone was reached during a season where the WNBA expanded its regular games to 40, four more than the previous year, making Stewart's achievement even more impressive. Stewart scored 40 points for the fourth time this season on 14 of 25 field goal attempts and 9 of 13 free throw attempts. In addition to setting a single-season record, Stewart also grabbed 10 rebounds, giving her three games this season with 40 points and 10 rebounds. All other WNBA players have only had eight such games in their careers. In response to her achievement, Stewart expressed her honor in being compared to Taurasi, stating, "Any time I'm in the same limelight as [Taurasi], it's a huge honor. I really appreciate everything I've been able to do and wouldn't be able to do it without my teammates."
The New York Liberty, currently on a seven-game winning streak, are second in the Western Conference and in fierce competition with the Las Vegas Aces for the top seed in the playoffs. Stewart's record-breaking achievement has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in her team's success this season.
