Sarah Lavin has secured her qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after her remarkable performance at the Stockholm Diamond League yesterday evening.
Lavin has continued to add to her impressive season, after bagging bronze in the 100m hurdle event at the European Games in Poland last week.
Limerick's star athlete clocked a personal best of 12.73 in the 100m hurdles, beating her previous best of 12.79 which she set at last summer's European Championships in Munich. She finished in second place behind world record holder and reigning world champion Tobi Amusan (12.52) in the seventh leg of the Diamond League. Lavin also defeated European champion Pia Skrzyszowska, who finished third in 12.78, and world indoor medallist Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas (12.85).

When speaking about winning a medal at the European Games, Lavin said: “I’m so so happy! I’ve dreamt of winning this, winning a major senior medal since I was a kid. It’s a really strange way to do it – to have that run by myself the other day and to have to play that waiting game to watch all the best from every country compete against each other. ”
Referring to her support team, and her late partner Craig Breen, Lavin said: “I’ve had incredibly special people helping me over the last few months, over last years, but ultimately I think someone very special up there is helping me…"
The 29-year-old will now gear up for her second Olympics, after competing at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
