Katie McCabe Earns Her 200th Cap For Arsenal

Sunday 5 November marked a milestone for Katie McCabe as she took the field for what would be her 200th appearance for the gunners against Manchester City.

The Irish Women’s National Team captain initially signed with the club in 2015 from Shelbourne. More recently, she extended her contract with Arsenal in September. “Over the years, I’ve experienced some amazing moments here – but I believe that the best is yet to come and I know the aim here at Arsenal is to compete for the highest honours”, McCabe previously stated on her decision to remain with the side.

Katie McCabe has continued to thrive with Arsenal as the gunners have prospered in the WSL. On Sunday, McCabe’s side won 2-1 against Manchester City, who are currently in second place in the league.

Arsenal’s first goal was scored by Stephanie Catley when she followed up on a pass from Caitlin Foord. England’s Chloe Kelly then equalised this for Manchester City as she capitalised on a pass from Jamaican international Khadija Shaw bringing the score to 1-1.

The final Arsenal goal came at overtime when Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating made the error of coming out of the goal box to save the ball which then left the net open for Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius to score.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), McCabe expressed her thoughts on this momentous occasion: “What a way to celebrate 200 Arsenal appearances with a big win at home with our supporters – 200 games in and I still feel that same pride every time I put on that shirt. Proud of the girls today, we will never give up!”

McCabe will face her international counterparts on 9 November, as Arsenal are set to take on Bristol City – Ireland’s Megan Connolly, Bristol City’s newly appointed captain and Chloe Mustaki are a part of the team.
