Galway United will play Cork City on Saturday at 2pm in Eamon Deacy Park. This will be United’s first game since defeating Cliftonville in the inaugural All Ireland Final Cup last month. Cork City sits bottom of the league and are the only team yet to register a league win this campaign.
City made it to the semi finals of the All Ireland Cup and their young players haven’t looked out of place at this level.The Athlone town Stadium hosts Athlone Town vs Sligo Rovers this Saturday at 7pm. Athlone sit in 7th place winning five of their opening 12 games.
Athlone have suffered narrow defeats to Bohs and Rovers this season and will be hoping to climb the table after the summer break. Sligo Rovers sit 2nd bottom accumulating four points so far this campaign. Northern Ireland international Casey Howe has been a breakthrough star for Sligo this season.
Treaty United take on Shelbourne in Markets Field at 7pm this Saturday. Shels sit in second place six points adrift of Peamount. They announced four new signings today so it will be interesting to see if any of them are involved this weekend.
Treaty are in ninth place. They have suffered heavy defeats, drawn five games and won one game against Sligo Rovers this campaign. No team in the league has drawn as many game as Treaty so far this season. Turning those Draws into victories will their number one goal after the summer break.
Finally, Wexford Youths take on DLR Waves in Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday at 6pm. The Youths sit in sixth place both on 17 points and 17 points adrift from the top of table. They’ll aim to regroup quickly as they dealt with squad absences in the opening half of the season. DLR Waves sit in 8th place and are finding their feet after undergoing a change of management two months ago.
Peamount’s Kate Mooney is currently the league top scorer so far with 9. She’s three clear of Shamrock Rover’s Áine O Gorman and Shelbourne’s Jemma Quinn. Shelbourne’s Courtney Maguire has the most amount of clean sheets this year with 8. One more than Boh’s Rachael Kelly, DLR’s Eve Banana and Peamount’s Niamh Reid-Burke.
