Two Personal Bests for Ireland at the World Para Powerlifting Championships

Britney Ardense & Nicola Dore both reached a personal best at the competition which took place in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Britney Arendse lifted 113kg at the World Para Championships which are underway in Tbilisi, Georgia.

It was a personal best for 21-year-old Arendse who represented Team Ireland at the Paralympics in Tokyo this year.

Ardense, who hails from Co. Cavan, has been powerlifting since the age of 16 and is representing Ireland at the championships alongside 33-year-old Nicola Dore.

Limerick native Dore reached a personal best of 76kg in the competition, which saw the Gold medal go to Nigeria’s Lucy Ejike.

Dore became Ireland first ever para powerlifting medallist at a major championship back in 2019, when she took bronze at the ‘Up to 55kg’ weight category at the European Open Championships.

The Irish Wheelchair Sporting Association said the “super” results were a “credit to Nicola and Britney and their coaches Roy Guerin & Denver Arendse”.
