Irish International Fahey Named Liverpool Captain

Republic of Ireland international, Niamh Fahey, has been named as they new Liverpool FC Women’s captain.

Republic of Ireland international, Niamh Fahey, has promised to “embody the spirit” of Liverpool after being named as the club’s new captain.

Fahey, is preparing for her third season at the Merseyside club, whom she has supported since she was a child.

The 32-year-old signed a new contract in the summer and can operate in both midfield and defence. The Galway woman offers a wealth of experience in the game, having previously won two Women’s Super League titles with Arsenal in 2011 and 2012 and a third with Chelsea in 2015.

“It’s an amazing feeling. It’s something I never thought would happen,” she said of her appointment as LFC Women skipper.

“For me as a supporter, now being captain is beyond my wildest dreams and I’m going to embody the spirit of the club through my captaincy and bring out the values of a Liverpool player.

“It’s been a really enjoyable pre-season and we’re working really hard to get back up to the Women’s Super League, where we feel we belong.

“We’re under no illusions that we need to be at the top of our game in every game. We have to be up for the fight but also show our qualities.”

Liverpool FC Women will play in the FA Women’s Championship, eager to win promotion back to the Super League after relegation last year.

Niamh Fahey Ireland

Fahey began her career at Salthill Devon in her native Galway and has earned 90 international caps for the Girls In Green.
