ALL Sporting Events To Be Played Behind Closed Doors With Immediate Effect

The Government have issued new Covid-19 restrictions which will force ALL sporting events behind closed doors with immediate effect for the foreseeable future.

The decision made follows a share rise in the number of cases across the country and has reportedly been recommended by the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet).

The new restrictions mean that the limit of 200 spectators for outdoor events, which included players and team officials, will now not apply.

It is thought the recent surge in Covid-19 cases has led Nphet to recommend only the allowance of essential attendees at games, which includes players, coaches and medical staff.

Prior to these restrictions, 50 to 120 fans could attend matches for the likes of GAA, soccer and rugby.

Should the measures be implemented it’ll represent a major obstacle to this year’s All-Ireland Senior Football and Camogie  Championships going ahead as planned.

It would also end any possibility of fans being permitted to attend Women’s National League games or Six Nations games in the coming months.
