Katie McCabe has been named in the 2022/23 UEFA Women’s Champions League team of the year. Taking the left-back position, alongside Barcelona’s León, McCabe is the only player from a non-finalist club to make the team.

The Team of the Season is heavily dominated by players from both Wolfsburg and Barcelona, who battled it out in the Final on Saturday, with Barcelona claiming a 3-2 win, following a second-half comeback.
McCabe has also been given the responsibility of captaining Arsenal in recent months following the season-ending injuries to both Captain Kim Little and Vice Captain Leah Williamson. The Ireland Captain led Arsenal in both legs of their Champions League semi-final against German side Wolfsburg, to whom they suffered defeat at a sold-out Emirates Stadium.

Later this month, McCabe will join up with the Ireland WNT squad in preparation for their two send-off games against Zambia and France. The team will also take part in a behind closed doors match against Colombia in Australia on July 14th. Ireland will face Canada, Australia and Nigeria in the group stage, of what will be the team’s first-ever Women’s World Cup.
