The Citi Para World Series season began today (Feb. 17) in Melbourne, where Ireland’s top Para Swimmers will be competing over the course of the next three days.
Ellen Keane and Nicole Turner both take to the water in a variety of different events.
Tokyo gold medallist Keane races on all three days in the Open Mixed Class (MC) 100m Butterfly, Open MC 100m Breaststroke and the Open MC 200m Individual Medley.
Turner, who took home a silver medal from the Tokyo Games, also features on all three days and will compete in the Open MC 400m Freestyle, Open MC 100m Breaststroke, Open MC 50m Butterfly and the Open MC 200m Individual Medley.
The competition will feature 93 athletes from 11 countries for multiclass races as a platform to build towards the Manchester 2023 Para Swimming World Championships, and of course the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
All athletes' results at each Citi Para Swimming World Series edition are calculated using a standardised World Para Swimming points system via an online virtual competition platform.
Performance Director for Para Swimming Dave Malone said “We have been in Melbourne for 10 days now and have had a great training camp. The athletes are all training well and are looking forward to getting back out racing and reaching their performance goals.”
