Maguire One-Shot Off Playoff With Fourth Place Finish

In just her second LPGA Tour event in her rookie season, Leona Maguire rallied on the final day to finish tied for fourth and just one-shot off the eventual three-way playoff, at the ISPS Handa Vic Open.

The Cavan native began the day tied for 11th on five under-par and navigated difficult blustery conditions at the Beach Course at 13th Beach Club, to card a two-under par final round of 70.

The former Duke University star, dropped three shots and notched five birdies, to finish hot on the heels of the South Korean trio Hye-Jin Choi, Hee Young Park, and So Yeon Ryu.

The 25-year-old finished seven under-par just one shot off the three-way play-off which crowned Hee Young Park the eventual champion.

With the Australian Women’s Open next week, Maguire will have huge confidence and belief. This is Maguire’s rookie season on the LPGA Tour having earned her card from the Symetra Tour last season.

The Cavan golfer carries serious pedigree at amateur level and turned professional in June 2018. With her performance at this year’s ISPS Handa Vic Open she will undoubtedly believe she deserves to be competing at the highest-level amongst the best in the world.

Also in action was Stephanie Meadow who finished her final round with a four-over par 76. Overall it was a two-under tournament for Meadow which sealed a tie for 20th for the Jordanstown golfer.
