Leah McCourt had a 2020 she will never forget. The MMA star etched her name into the history books as she became the first female to headline Bellator Europe. Not only was that a remarkable feat, the fighter did so on home soil to make it extra special, in front of a packed 3Arena in Dublin.
The 28-year-old featherweight defeated Judith Ruis via unanimous decision to take her MMA record to four wins and one loss.
McCourt is a rising star on the MMA scene. She is a former IMMAF World and European Amateur champion and International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation gold medallist.
The fighter who trains out of SBG Charlestown under Coach Owen Roddy, is pushing boundaries and paving the way for more Irish female MMA fighters to rise through the ranks.
McCourt is currently recovering from shoulder surgery after she tore her rotator cuff.
Speaking on Instagram after he surgery, she said; “”What’s one more setback on the path to achieving greatness. Adversity has only ever pushed me up ten levels. I know how hard the next few months will be but a big setback to me has always meant bigger comeback.”
