The Republic of Ireland WNT is now ranked 23rd in the world—an all-time high that’s especially encouraging ahead of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next summer.

This is the third time this year that the team has set a new record in the Fifa Women’s World Rankings. They moved up to 26th in August and 24th in October after qualifying for the World Cup—the first time they have ever done so–in a 1-0 playoff win over Scotland.
Vera Pauw’s side will face Australia in Sydney on the first day of the summer tournament, July 20th, before flying to Perth to face Canada and back to Brisbane to face Nigeria. Australia is ranked 12th in the world, Canada sixth and Nigeria 45th.
