A candlelight vigil will be held at Kenny Park in Athenry at 9pm this evening following the passing of Kate Moran, who passed away following a freak accident during a camogie match in Galway over the Easter weekend.

Trubutes have poured in for the 20-year old who suffered a head injury in a senior league game against Ardrahan. The match was abandoned as medical crews treated Moran, who died at University Hospital Galway on Tuesday. The Camogie star sadly passed 24 hours after sustaining her injury.
Athenry Camogie Club paid tribute to Moran with a club statement that read;
“Kate began playing with Athenry Camogie Club at underage level and quickly progressed to Senior A level with great distinction,”
“She holds a Feile, Minor County and Intermediate County title. She played in a club All-Ireland Intermediate final. She won two All-Irelands at U16 level with Galway, both titles she was incredibly proud of.
“She was a tremendous role model for our many underage players and a wonderful leader both on and off the field of play. Her bubbly personality will be remembered for eternity.”
Speaking to RTÉ’s News, former camogie coach, Joe Rabbitte, described Ms Moran her as “great friend” to all her teammates and a “wonderful kid” with a beautiful smile.
