After the Government’s decision to move the National level of COVID-19 restrictions back to Level 3, spectators will once again no longer be allowed to attend games.
Prior to this, up to 200 supporters had been allowed to attend outdoor events in all counties apart from Dublin and Donegal but with the new restrictions enforced nationally, only teams and essential personnel will now be permitted.
As a result of the Level 3 restrictions, only professional and other ‘elite’ matches can go ahead.
Earlier this afternoon, the LGFA announced they were suspending all club games (but not training) following concerns over “post-match celebrations and a lack of social distancing at certain events”. It remains to be seen whether they will now decide to resume games in the absence of fans.
What changes as a result of the Level 3 restrictions?
Non-contact training in pods of up to 15 is permitted in an outdoor setting – there is an exemption ‘elite’ athletes.
There can only be individual training for indoor sport, with no matches or events to take place.
There will be an exemption for professional / elite / inter-county / club championship / horse-racing which can take place behind closed doors.
Gyms, leisure centres and swimming pools will remain open with protective measures, for individual training only.
