Reigning champions of Europe England booked their place in the EURO 2025 final in the most nail-biting fashion imaginable after a 2-1 victory over Italy in extra time.
England were seconds away from heartbreak before 19-year-old sensation Michelle Agyemang came off the bench and to the Lionesses’ rescue.
The teenage striker slotted home a 96th minute equaliser to keep her side’s title hopes alive, in almost identical fashion to her heroics in the quarter-finals against Sweden.
As the match entered the final moments of extra time, England were awarded a penalty. Chloe Kelly stepped up, and despite missing her initial effort, she reacted fast to hammer home to eventual winner in the 119th minute of the game, sparking jubilant celebrations and sealing England’s place in their third consecutive major international final.
Sarina Wiegman’s side, known for their resilience, showed once again their champion mentality. With time running out, Wiegman’s bench additions did not let her down.
The result sees England through to Sunday’s final in Basel, where they will face either Germany or Spain. For manager Sarina Wiegman, it will be a chance to secure yet another European title, and a chance for England to write themselves into the history books.
