Mawdsley And Lavin Shine At The World Athletics Continental Tour

Ireland’s athletic talents shone at last night’s World Athletics Continental Tour, where Sharlene Mawdsley and Sarah Lavin put out very impressive performances.

Mawdlsey competed the 400m event in Huelva, Spain, and recorded a new personal best of 51.34, finishing in 4th place. Despite not medalling, this performance makes Mawdsley the 4th fastest Irish woman in this category, behind Rhasidat Adeleke, Joanne Cuddihy and Karen Shinkins.

The 400m race was won by Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser, silver for South Africa’s Miranda Charlene Coetzee and Poland’s Anna Kielbasinska claimed the bronze.

Lavin competed in Poland as part of the Continental Tour Gold and finished in 3rd behind the USA’s Alaysha Johnson and Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas – both of whom also achieved a season’s best. Lavin not only won the bronze medal, but she also got a season best of 12.68.

Both Mawdlsey and Lavin will be looking to build on their performances with both athletes hoping to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
