Ireland Win Water Polo Home Nations Tournament

Ireland Women are the Home Nations Champions after three wins in three games played this weekend.

Ireland Water Polo hosted the Water Polo Home Nations Tournament (Ireland, England, Scotland & Wales), this past weekend (19- 21 May 2023) at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre (NAC), Dublin.

This was the first time the Home Nations has been held in Dublin and the first International Water Polo Tournament to be held in Ireland in ten years. The event was hosted in Coventry in the UK in 2022, following the re-establishment of the Menโ€™s Home Nations competition. This year was also the first time in a number of years that the Womenโ€™s Tournament was added to the schedule.

The Women’s team gave an incredible performance from the beginning of the tournament – Day 1 saw Ireland defeat Wales 21-5. The team went on to battle England in a nail-biting game on Day 2, but they managed to swim away with a 11-10 victory. The third and final match took place against Scotland, where Ireland won 18-3, making them champions of the tournament.
