Ireland’s top female racing driver Nicole Drought brought home the titles of class 4 winner and competitor of the day at the Silverstone GP Britcar Endurance Series over the weekend.
The 25-year-old Tipperary native is a dedicated ambassador for women in sport, endorsing Formula Female and the 20x20 movement among others. Having displayed her notable ability to back up such role model substance on numerous occasions, the latest incredible performance came on Sunday.
Love it!!! ?
She’s got the inside covered- nobody will be able to take a dive there!! ?
Future racing driver in the making?! ??@ShiftUpNow @FormulaFemales @WomanMotorsport @fiawim https://t.co/1RRB2BLBNN— Nicole Drought (@NicoleDrought) April 24, 2021
While this was her fourth win in Britcar it was her inaugural debut in the Hyundai i30 N TCR, but this didn’t seem to faze the Motus One contestant.
In stiff contention with a Ferrari 458 Challenge car and a Porsche 991 Cup machine at the beginning of the two hour race, Drought began to overtake these opponents when the rain began to downpour.
Next to target was the course leader Peter Erceg who was driving his usual Porsche Cayman and after trading places multiple times the Tipperary woman emerged clear to set the fastest lap before handing over the reigns to co-driver Danny Krywyj.
Krywyj then went on to snatch the class lead from the CTR-Alfatune Cupra before leaving everyone in the dust and taking first place.
Winner winner chuck for dinner! ?
And to top it off I was named driver of the day! ?
What a tough race at Silverstone GP!?
Delighted with that one! Big thank you to my teammate Danny, team Motus One and to everyone who wished me luck- greatly appreciated!?? pic.twitter.com/XVcwJKCkDM— Nicole Drought (@NicoleDrought) July 4, 2021
Drought, who was awarded Driver of The Day for her superb efforts said she was “delighted” with the result and was keen to acknowledge those who gave her a helping hand.
“I want to give a give shout out to Motus One who did a great job all weekend, especially Tom and Tom, who worked on our car, and also to Danny, who was mega today!” she said.
“This one is for Gem Oils, ITM Digital, Siltex Safety, Joe Mallon Motors and the many other people who support me. Without them I would just be dreaming about days like this.”
She will now be aspiring to the Britcar Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch on July 31st, yet another notorious circuit in Kent, England.
Speaking with HerSport back in January of this year
the Roscrea driver referred to last year’s success in the Britcar contest as her focal point of 2020 and that it “gave [her] great confidence then coming into 2021.”
There is no doubt that courage was on show at the weekend in Silverstone and bystanders throughout Ireland will be hoping it continues on into the future for this exemplar of sportswomanship!
