Thursday October 6th soccer team the Kansas City Current broke ground on a new stadium in their namesake city — the first stadium ever built specifically for a women's professional soccer team.

The stadium will seat over 11,000 fans and is hoped to be a recruitment tool for the team as well as a development draw for the area.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the 2024 season. The men's 2026 World Cup is coming to Kansas City, so the stadium may also get use by a national team if Kansas City is used as a base camp.
