Williams told Vogue ‘I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me’ but shares her intentions of having another child and her excitement about growing her family. This is because suffered severe complications during the birth of Olympia, her first child, which may have been in the wake of her competing at a high level at the time.

However, she is still set on competing in this year's US Open, so there is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans across the world to see such a historic player dominate the court in her final match.
