Róisín Ní Riain stormed to victory in her final yesterday evening to claim her second gold medal of the European Championships in the 100m backstroke final. In a stacked race that featured the Paralympic champion Ní Riain held her own to take the top spot in Madeira.
This brings her medal tally to three so far in this championships, with three events still to go.
Speaking after her heat Róisín Ní Riain said, “That was a pretty good swim, definitely some mistakes were made there but this is the kind of competition we come to that we get to learn from. There’s some cleaning up to do but hopefully that will come”.
“It’s a hectic schedule but it’s nice. I love to get out and race at any opportunity I get. So it’s lots of fun and we’ve got a few more fun ones to come so hopefully they’ll be good,” she adds.
Ní Riain is back in the pool this morning for her 400m freestyle heat where she will attempt to reach yet another final. In the evening Turner and Brady will face off once again in the 50m freestyle final.
