Roisin Ní Riain and Nicole Turner both added bronzes to Ireland''s medal haul at the Madeira 2024 Para Swimming European Open Championships while they, Ellen Keane, and Dearbhaile Brady all compete in further finals today (April 27).
Roisin Ní Riain started off Friday evening in style, adding a bronze medal to her collection. A time of 4:44.62 secured the Limerick swimmer her fourth medal of the championships. She has one event left, the 200m IM.
Speaking after the final Ní Riain said, “Yeah I’m happy that swim. It was definitely a tough one but yeah, happy with the result.”
Fresh off the back of her gold medal win Thursday, Nicole Turneradded another to her haul winning bronze in her final.
Speaking after the final Turner said, “Medals are great, I won’t lie but I think this championships is all about breaking down the race. It’s kind of our last big meet now before Paris so it is to get the mistakes out of the way here. It’s all just a learning curve to see what we can do better and then bring that into Paris.”
Ellen Keane was first in the pool Saturday morning on the last day of the European Championships. Setting her intent for the final this evening she placed first in her 100m butterfly heat. Her final is at 17:30.
Ní Riain followed Ellen’s lead to also finish first in her 200m IM heat. She will contest her sixth final of the championships this evening at 18:40.
Turner and Dearbhaile Brady will once again compete against each other in the 50m butterfly final at 19:34.
