Record after record fell at the last meet of 2023, the Irish Winter Championships at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre.
The three-day meet began Thursday, following stellar performances at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Romania the previous weekend from bronze medallist Ellen Walshe and Irish record breaker Danielle Hill.
Hill had set six Irish records at those championships in the 50m freestyle and 50m and 100m backstroke, and showed her versatility again Thursday, breaking her own 100m freestyle record of 53.81 with 53.03. Walshe took second with 53.95 and Victoria Catterson third with 54.38, and Grace Davison's 5th-place time of 55.09 was good enough to lower her own Irish junior record of 55.35, set last month.
Walshe, who claimed bronze in Romania in the 400m Individual Medley, lowered her own Irish 200m Individual Medley record from 2:08.50 (set just six days ago) to 2:08.32.
Hill also won the 50m backstroke national title in 26.67 with Walshe in second (27.21) and Lottie Cullen in third (27.24).
Walshe and Hill both added to their title collection Friday, with Hill (58.16) winning the 100m backstroke ahead of Cullen (58.41) and Walshe (59.22). Walshe won gold in both the 400m Individual Medley (in 4:41.25) and the 50m Butterfly (26.03).
And the records continued to fall Saturday, as Hill lowered the Irish 50m freestyle record to 24.00 as she won her fourth national title of the week and Davison set a new junior record of 25.38 in the same event, both breaking their own records.
Walshe twice more claimed gold in the 100m butterfly (in 59.22) and 100m Medley final (in 59.57), with Davison taking silver in the latter in 1:01.38, another new junior record.
