Dr. Una May has been appointed the new CEO of Sport Ireland.
Having previously held the position of Director of Participation and Ethics and Director of Anti-Doping, Dr.May has been a firm fixture in Sport Ireland for over 23 years.
She holds a PhD in exercise physiology in sports science from John Moores University in Liverpool and has acted as a WADA (World anti-doping agency) observer at major championship events.

“I congratulate Dr. Una May on her appointment as Chief Executive of Sport Ireland”, said the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD.
“Una has developed a strong reputation as a dynamic and ambitious sports leader and has a track record of delivering results. I wish her every success in bringing the mission for sport in Ireland to the next phase of development and in achieving the ambitious targets set within the Government’s National Sports Policy”.
Dr.May comes from a sporting background having represented Ireland in Mountain Running and Orienteering. She is also Sport Ireland’s longest serving member after her predecessor John Treacy.
May was a member of the Irish Sports Council board before its official status came about in 1999, working to progress Irish sports from the start. She represents the first female CEO of Sport Ireland.
Dr Una May takes up this post at a "critical time for Irish sport,” said Minister for Sport Jack Chambers.
“Una will work with the board of Sport Ireland and all stakeholders from the wider sports sector to ensure the sector’s continued recovery from the impact of Covid-19”.
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with Una in implementing a ‘Sport for All’ inclusive approach across all parts of the sports sector, in achieving the targets within Sport Ireland’s high-performance strategy and in expanding the world-class facilities at the Sport Ireland Campus” said Minister Chambers.
