A young woman (17) was assaulted in the Johnstown area of Kilkenny yesterday by a man with a sharp object while she was out exercising. The incident happened shortly after 12pm.
The 17-year-old was out walking when a man carrying a sharp object, thought to be scissors, grabbed her in what may have been an attempted abduction. The man is believed to be in his forties, was wearing dark clothing and spoke with an Irish accent. The attack took place in a rural laneway, close to the teenages family home.
It is believed that the man fled the scene after the young woman struggled and screamed for help. Gardai are currently investigating the incident. The teenage girl is now safe and recovering well in hospital.
This incident comes a few weeks after the brutal murder of Ashling Murphy in Tullamore.
