Her Sport is delighted to announce its partnership with adidas, through the Breaking Barriers Project, a pioneering initiative aimed at fostering equality for women and girls in sports.
Her Sport's co-founders, Niamh Tallon and Mohammed Mahomed, were honoured with an invitation to the adidas global headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, where they were selected for the prestigious adidas Breaking Barriers Project. As part of this transformative programme, Her Sport will join the incubator programme, benefitting from mentorship, access to networks, key markets and resources as well as funding to amplify their solutions aimed at tackling barriers hindering women and girls from accessing and engaging in sport. Delivered in partnership with startup incubator Plug and Play, the Innovation Lab is poised to generate both positive business outcomes and impactful social change.
The adidas Breaking Barriers Project sets out ambitious objectives that deeply resonate with Her Sport's mission:
- Enhancing the participation in sport for girls and women.
- Developing a scalable, long-term programme that serves as a flagship for women in sports across Europe.
- Inspiring young girls to aspire towards their highest potential.
- Leading the industry in driving systemic change around access to sports for women and girls, fostering a culture of accountability across sports towards gender equity.
Her Sport envisions a future of equal opportunity in sport regardless of gender, where women and girls can achieve their full potential - amplified by the notion that 94% of women in executive managerial positions have a background in sport.
Through visibility and education, Her Sport has already begun to effect positive change for girls and women in sports. Their digital community, comprising a quarter of a million people, serves as a platform to showcase role models and normalise women's sports. In a recent survey, 60% of Her Sport's audience reported that the platform has positively impacted their participation in sport while 99% believe that Her Sport is having a positive impact for girls and women in sport.
Furthermore, Her Sport conducts educational workshops targeted at schools, sports clubs, and businesses, empowering students, parents, coaches, and teachers with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to surmount barriers. Currently, Her Sport is developing an educational programme slated for nationwide implementation across Ireland, with the potential to impact 262,500 students. Partnerships are being sought to support the rollout of this transformative initiative.
