87 timed international cap receiver Louise Quinn was a major component in the Republic of Ireland’s victory over Australia just a few days ago.
From last ditch tackles to scoring the winning goal, the Birmingham City club captain gave everything to get the Girls in Green over the line in Tallaght Stadium.
Upon reading the final tally however one may be forgiven for thinking she netted a brace, given new arrival Lucy Quinn also had a monumental strike that made the scoreboard.

Their surname however is not the only thing these pair share. Housemates over in the UK where they undergo their Women’s Super League careers, Louise described their living situation as “mad” following Tuesday’s game.
“We’re housemates as well me Harriet [Scott] and Quinny so it’s a mad house but the atmosphere is brilliant and it’s football all day long” she said.
“We’re always talking about these sorts of things and these moments. Harriet brought us all together and now we’re just the Quinns.”
“Even when we get post it’s like, ‘who’s this for? We don’t know. Don’t open my mail!’” she joked.
On a serious note, however the Wicklow woman remarked that the seven additions of the “Irish contingent” in the City squad are “great to have” and that “it’s only going to do Birmingham and the Irish team good with that link of players together.”

Despite 11 squad members absent due to injury, Ireland outdone The Matildas 3-2 on the night, the new woman on the block with the Sligo roots snatching the opener in the third minute.
Giving her thoughts on the goal Louise Quinn reflected that her namesake is in fact a “dead ball specialist” that “stepped up” from the word go.
“There’s not many people that take a freekick off Katie McCabe to be honest with you and she has that confidence” she said.
“She’s just come into the squad ready and raring to go. She has a voice, she’s not afraid to put an opinion in and that’s exactly what we need we need leaders on the pitch.”
“She’s been waiting for this moment for a long time and to literally score a goal in the third minute, it’s unbelievable. She adds that strength and confidence to the squad and we need all of that as much as possible.”
While many are still not over the hype that accompanied the sensational win that broke Ireland’s seven game losing streak, Louise is well aware that although it has “given [them] that confidence” the side “have to be ready” for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
“We have to do it. We have to push and go out of our comfort zone, feel the pressure and put out a performance like that where everyone was working for each other and that has to be consistent” she says.
“I think that’s something again that we have to work on the consistency of performances. You don’t get many chances to do this, and we learnt that in the Euros, so this is it.”
