The Gunners are set to play their first match of the Women’s Super League (WSL) against Liverpool on October 1.
Despite finishing third in the WSL last season, this game will occur just weeks after Arsenal was knocked out of the Champions League qualifying round by Paris FC. The game ended with a 3-3 result before resorting to penalties which concluded at 4-2 to Paris.
While she scored a goal early on in the first half, Alessia Russo - who was admitted to Arsenal on a free transfer this summer - missed a penalty shot.
McCabe will be facing 3 fellow Irish internationals who play for Liverpool - Niamh Fahey, Leanne Kiernan, and Megan Campbell. Fahey, a former Gunner herself and current Liverpool captain, played alongside McCabe during the World Cup just months before.

Speaking about her World Cup experience ahead of the upcoming season, Fahey said: “The whole buzz, it’s just unrivaled in terms of the experience. The Irish support that we had over there was insane. It was like a home game at times, it was crazy.”
Irish Women’s National Team (WNT) captain and Arsenal player Katie McCabe had an eventful summer, becoming the first Irish player to score a World Cup goal. With McCabe’s impressive stats last year, she was named Arsenal’s player of the 2022-2023 season and has even been nominated for the Women’s Ballon D’Or.
