Rubiales is currently suspended from the RFEF due to kissing Hermoso on her lips at the Women’s World Cup final celebration - an incident that sparked worldwide controversy.
After the incident, Hermoso opened up in a statement on her social media page expressing how the unwanted kiss left her feeling “vulnerable and like the victim of an impulse-driven, sexist, out of place act”. She confirmed that there was no consent given on her part.

The National Court announced the previous week that it was opening the preliminary probe in light of the “unequivocal nature” of Hermoso’s statements , stating that it was necessary to determine their legal significance.
81 players went on strike from the women’s side in protesting against Rubiales’s defiant defensive speech following the incident in which he railed against “false feminism”.
Spain's head coach Jorge Vilda has also been dismissed from the team and replaced with Montse Tome.
