The shot-stopper joins an illustrious list of internationals whom have been inducted into the FAI’s Hall of Fame. Damien Duff, Robbie Keane and Tony Cascarino are the most recent inductees while other previous recipients include Andy Townsend, Ronnie Whelan, Ray Houghton and Liam Brady to name a few.
The goalkeeper also enjoyed a successful international career, making her debut back in 1996 as a 16-year old. Byrne went on to wear the jersey for 27 years, amassing a total of 134 senior caps for her country - a record number of times. Byrne also captained the national side for four years.
FAI CEO John Delaney said:
"To pull on the Ireland jersey is a special thing, but to do it on 134 occasions is quite remarkable. Emma has earned her right to be described as an Irish legend.
"Emma was a fantastic goalkeeper and ambassador for the women's game. She deserves to have her name in the Hall of Fame, alongside some of the best players ever to represent Ireland."
