After a thrilling two matches today, 8 August, Colombia and France have secured the last two spots in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 quarter-finals.
Colombia faced Jamaica in their Round of 16 fixture to advance to the next round. The Reggae Girlz’ World Cup dreams came to an end after a 1-0 defeat against Colombia.
The first half saw an intense deadlock between both sides, where there were only two shots on target. The opening minutes of the second half is when the deadlock broke - Colombia’s Captain Catalina Usme scored a calm and collected goal in the 51st minute to put the Reggae Girlz behind. Jamaica almost equalised as Jody Brown’s header was denied by the goalpost. An 18- year old Linda Caicedo also had a chance to double Colombia’s lead but the shot was overpowered and went over the bar.
