The Irish 7s Rugby World Cup is just around the corner and athletes like Eve Higgins are preparing for the competition.
Ireland's Women's National Rugby 7s team qualified for the Rugby World Cup after having four straight wins and zero tries scored on them.
“I think you’d be lying if you said you weren’t nervous,” Higgins said. “I’d say we are lucky that we had two European competitions beforehand to kind of get some game time in and probably shake a bit of nerves as well and gain some confidence going into this tournament.”
Spain, England and and Poland will join Ireland at the World Cup.
Higgins explained that this tournament has felt different than last year’s competition.
“This tournament felt like a bit of a slow process in a way because we usually play six games in a weekend whereas this competition was four games over two days, so you had a longer break between games…we were actually able to go back to the hotel and if you wanted a nap in your bed and have a sleep you could,” Higgins said.
After winning four straight games to qualify for the World Cup and having zero tries scores on her team, Higgins said, “We can look back at this season before the world cup and see it was our most successful season that we’ve ever had…”
Her team has a very close bond on and off the pitch. Their team is known for making funny Tik Toks together and having excellent friendships.
“It is just such an enjoyable place to be as a team that is so young and so close and that is all together for one goal.”
