The Women's 2025 Rugby World Cup will see England's Red Roses kick-off the campaign at Sunderland's famed Stadium of Light on August 22. Up to 49,000 fans will have the chance to watch England, the world’s number one ranked team, in action in the Rugby World Cup opener.
Come September 27, the hallowed 82,000 capacity Twickenham Stadium, etched in rugby lore, will host the grand finale. The ambition? Shattering attendance records for women's internationals, currently capped at 58,498 – a feat achieved in England's triumph over France earlier this year in the Six Nations.
World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont doesn't mince words. "Women’s Rugby World Cup England 2025 is poised to be a game-changer. A generational moment that transcends the try-lines, engaging new audiences with a relentless momentum."
Sunderland's Stadium of Light, chosen for the kickoff, underscores an intention – a mission to transform this tournament into not just a sporting spectacle but a cultural conversation. RFU's Steve Grainger asserts, "It's not merely about rugby; it's a narrative that Gen Z will echo. Sunderland embodies that narrative."
With Canada, England, France, and New Zealand securing their berths already, the anticipation builds for the remaining teams, including Ireland who will look to secure their spot from the WXV and regional competitions in 2024.
