Dublin's Docklands hosted the annual Blitzit 2018 Splash and Dash, which saw 13 schools participate in some rowing racing. The Get Going, Get Rowing programme has seen the introduction of rowing to girls through school and the experience of racing on the water is an exciting event for these young sports women.
The racing categories included Under 14 and Under 16, with heats, semi final and final events. Five heats of Under 14 and seven heats of Under 16 were run, with great fun and excitement for each race. Down at the docklands there was a great atmosphere and simple delight for all the girls taking part.
The Under 14 final saw St. Leo's 1 take first place, St. Leo's 2 come in second and KCC win the bronze. The Under 16 event results were: Doms 3 (1st), HFC 6 (2nd) and Pres 2 (3rd). Each team were presented with their Get Going, Get Rowing Blitzit medals.
The Ready Chef Race saw the Get Going, Get Rowing partners take to the water with 5 crews representing Sport Ireland, Trinity College Sport and Dublin City Sport. Results: Trinity College Sport (1st), Dublin City Sport (2nd) and Sport Ireland (3rd).
The Get Going, Get Rowing runs a TrY programme in which Transition Year students get involved trying out coaching with younger students in their school. The Blitzit Dublin event was greatly supported by the TrY Rowers in organising, coxing and helping out at the event.
The Blitzit Splash and Dash, Dublin 2018 was supported and sponsored by Sport Ireland, Waterways Ireland, Ready Chef and Dublin City Sport and Well-Being.
