Great success for the Irish at the UIPM World Cup 4 which took place in Sofia, Bulgaria from the 22nd - 27th of May.
Natalya Coyle won the silver medal in the women's event, second to the British pentathlete, Kate French. We are delighted to see Natalya rewarded for her hard work on the international stage, winning her first individual medal and becoming the first Irish athlete to win a world cup individual medal. Natalya has been putting Ireland on the map in the world of modern pentathlon, making waves at both the London and Rio Olympic Games and is a role model for other up and coming athletes in Ireland.
Natalya Coyle, along with fellow team mates have been competing at the World Cup Series, which kicked off in Cairo on the 27th of February. These competitions have given great experience to the Irish athletes, with several promising performances in both individual and team events. Sive Brassil, who is hoping to compete in Toyko 2020, finished in 14th position in the World Cup 1, with Kate Coleman-Lenihan finishing in 32nd position.
World Cup 2 in Los Angeles saw another 14th place finish for Sive and Natalya right behind her in 15th position.
Eilidh Prise progressed to the final in World Cup 3 (Hungary), finishing in 21st place, with the other athletes unfortunately not progressing to the final in this competition. The mixed relay event was the highlight of the competition, with Kate and her partner, Michael Healy, attaining the silver medal. A brilliant performance from both athletes.
Natalya was due to compete in the mixed relay event with partner, Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe, at World Cup 4 following their individual competitions but the duo did not finish. Having won the mixed relay event at UIPM World Cup 4 in Poland last year it would have been great to see the athletes finish the event but both athletes had great success in their individual events, taking home silver and gold respectively - a great weekend for the Irish team.
