This year was set to be the 14th annual Darkness into Light fundraising walk in aid of Pieta House. Over 250,000 people were expected to take part to help raise much needed funds for freely accessible one-to-one counselling to people suffering from suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm or to those bereaved by suicide.
Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the fundraising walk has been postponed until later this Autumn. Consequently, Pieta House need support more than ever, especially now when so many people are feeling stressed and anxious during this time of crisis.
To combat this, on Saturday 18th April from 7am through to 8pm, a “Social Distance Digital Relay” has been organised to try and raise some much-needed funds for Pieta House. Currently, over €14k has been raised on the GoFundMe page and there is still work to do!
The digital relay will see a new participant take the baton every hour/30mins (whatever timings work for you) and walk/run/cycle - covering as much distance as possible in their time. The baton will then be passed to the next team member as the day progresses right up until 8pm.
Anyone can get involved individually or as a team so gather up your mates and get going! Teams are not required to run the full 13 hour day but are encouraged to sign up and take part.
To register your team, email [email protected] with your:
Team name, Team Members and Team Location (roughly).
It is important to stress that given the social distance guidelines, all the batons will be passed on virtually via social media and not physically. Each will participant kick things off via their chosen platform(s) and give regular updates on where they are and the distance they have covered.
Additionally, in keeping with the government guidelines – all participants must complete their distances within the within the 2km radius of their own homes. A perfect opportunity to get creative and have fun!
If contributing to the brilliant Pieta House is not enough, there will also be prizes up for grabs to those who donate. All donors will be entered into a raffle to win variety of prizes.
Prizes include:
- Signed men's Leinster Rugby Jersey
- Signed Dublin GAA Men's football jersey
- 2 x 5 class passes for Perpetua Fitness
