Legendary gymnast, Simone Biles, is making her return to gymnastics after a two-year break.
Biles is set to compete at the U.S. Classic on August 4 and 5. Following that announcement, Team USA formally announced the 7-time Olympic medalist’s return by posting “BILES IS BACK” on their Twitter on June 28.
The 26-year old confirmed her plan to return on Twitter on July 6, by stating she is “excited to get back out on the competition floor!”
Biles had stepped back from the spotlight following the Tokyo Olympics where she withdrew from parts of the competition due to mental health challenges. Biles was able to win silver in the team all-around competition and bronze on the beam in Tokyo, while navigating "the twisties," which is when a gymnast loses spatial awareness in the air during a skill.
Since the Tokyo Olympics, Biles has been very vocal about prioritizing mental health and providing resources to her followers.
“If I’ve learned anything over these past few months, it’s that it’s ok to take a step back to take care of yourself,” said Biles in a tweet in October, 2021.
The star confirmed her appearance at a training camp with the United States national team by posting a picture on her instagram story, yesterday, July 9.
