The June accolades for the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month have been awarded to Cork’s Katie Quirke and Kilkenny’s Aoife Prendergast, celebrating their remarkable performances in football and camogie, respectively.
Katie Quirke’s contributions were instrumental in Cork’s triumphs, securing a home All-Ireland quarter-final spot. In a dominant 23-point win over Laois, she notched a goal and three points. Her prowess continued against Galway, where her seven points proved decisive in a tight two-point victory. As Cork march towards the knockout stages, Quirke’s form promises more tales of heroism.

Aoife Prendergast, Kilkenny’s stalwart captain, embodies leadership and resilience. Her four points in the first half against Antrim set the stage for a comfortable victory. Yet, it’s against Waterford, a more formidable foe, that Prendergast’s true grit shines. Waterford posed a tougher challenge, but Prendergast’s crucial scores ensured a draw. She shone in a 22-point win over Derry with a tally of 2-5, and although her five points against Tipperary couldn’t avert defeat, her efforts secured Kilkenny’s spot in the knockouts.
Kilkenny have responded very well to the concession of that goal and a fine free from Aoife Prendergast has them back in front.

In the month of June, PwC continues to celebrate the extraordinary athletes through the The PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month awards. Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner at PwC Ireland, acknowledged the brilliance on display: “The month of June has provided some amazing games across all codes. I would like to extend my congratulations to Shane, Aoife, Peadar, and Katie on being named the June Player of the Month award winners as they have stood out above the rest of their talented teammates with their incredible skills and passion on display.”
Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Jarlath Burns, echoed this sentiment: “It has been an incredible few weeks for Gaelic games across all of the championships, thanks in no small part to some stellar performances. The month of June was illuminated by the displays of both Shane O’Donnell and Peadar Mogan as Clare and Donegal both thrived in strong provincial campaigns in hurling and football respectively. Similarly, Katie Quirke and Aoife Prendergast shone for Cork and Kilkenny on the ladies football and camogie circuits.”
Tom Parsons, GPA CEO, highlights the significance of these achievements: “As we approach the business end of the inter-county season, picking an award like this becomes all the more impressive. Outstanding individual performances contribute to a team making the closing stages of the championship and Aoife, Katie, Peadar, and Shane have been key to how their respective teams have progressed this year.”
The PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month and PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month Award winners are determined by votes from the GPA’s membership, underscoring the peer recognition and respect garnered by these outstanding athletes.
