Michaela Walsh took on Helina Bruyevich earlier today - the fight that would determine whether Walsh would be bringing home a medal from the EUBC Women's Elite European Championships. Having demonstrated agility and determination in her two previous fights, Michaela Walsh won her third fight at the championships in a 3:2 decision.
Walsh previously stated that she is "here for one thing only" and after this fight, which guaranteed her at least a bronze medal, she has again taken to Twitter to say she is "here for one colour only".
Walsh will take on Russian, Daria Abramova, who beat Lacramioara Perijoc of Romania 3:2 in their earlier quarterfinal. With two fights remaining, we hope her hard work and dedication pays off and she secures the gold medal she is striving to attain.
Kellie Harrington is in action against Iuliia Tsyplakova of Ukraine in the lightweight (60kg) category tomorrow in day 5 of the competition.
The session kicks off at 2pm and Harrington, who will be in blue, is the sixth fight of the day. Fingers crossed for another strong Irish performance and a progression to the next round, which would then guarantee a medal for Harrington.
Unfortunately Gráinne Walsh who was competing in the Middleweight (70kg) event, was beaten by 24 year old, Iaroslava Iakushina of Russia, by unanimous decision. We hope to see her in action again soon.
