The Irish Senior Women’s squad to compete in the 2018 FIBA Women's European Championship for Small Countries has been announced. The twelve player squad will represent Ireland in the tournament which is to be held from 26 June – 1 July at the Mardyke Arena, UCC, Co. Cork.
The FIBA Women's European Championship for Small Countries has been held biannually since its inception in 1989. Ireland have been runners up on four occasions, most recently the last tournament in 2016 where they were defeated by Malta in the final.
The Irish squad features a number of familiar names mixed with box experience and youth including the likes of Grainne Dwyer, Claire Rockall, Sarah Woods and Sorcha Tiernan who excelled at the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2017 when she helped Ireland win promotion to Division A for the first time.
Ireland are pitted against Luxembourg, Norway and Cyprus in Group B whilst reigning champions Malta are grouped with Gibraltar, Moldova and Denmark in Group A.
