Siofra Flynn has become the first Irish girl to win a singles medal at a European Junior Badminton Championships, in Ibiza, Spain yesterday.

In beating Hungary’s Zsofi Szabo 21-18, 21-16,  she qualifies for the semi finals today, Wednesday December 4th where she will play Turkey’s Ravza Bodur.

Siofra, from Kildare, becomes just the second Irish female ever to win at a European Junior Championship medal, following Linda Andrews who won a mixed doubles gold in 1975, and the second singles player ever to medal, alongside Olympian Nhat Nguyen who won a bronze medal at the 2018 championships.

Siofra’s semi final will be streamed live on http://BadmintonEurope.TV and as the third match on court, is expected to commence at approximately 11am.
