TG4 has announced that it will broadcast the AFL Women’s (AFLW) Grand Final live for the very first time, marking a historic moment for Irish sports fans. This year’s final sees the Brisbane Lions take on the North Melbourne Kangaroos in a thrilling rematch of last year’s showdown, featuring six outstanding Ladies Gaelic Football stars who have taken the AFLW by storm.
Among the players to watch are household names Vikki Wall from Meath and Orla O'Dwyer from Tipperary, who will line out on opposing sides in this climactic battle. Orla O'Dwyer, a standout performer named to the 2022 AFLW All-Australian team, will be pivotal for the Brisbane Lions, while Vikki Wall, in exceptional form with 67 points this season, will be a key player for North Melbourne.
Joining them on the field will be Bláithín Bogue (Fermanagh), Erika O'Shea (Cork), and Niamh Martin (Tipperary) for the North Melbourne Kangaroos, while Jennifer Dunne (Dublin) will bolster the Brisbane Lions, completing a strong Irish contingent.
Dublin’s Jennifer Dunne last year became the first player to win the All-Ireland Ladies Football Final and AFLW Premiership in the same calendar year.
Cork’s Erika O’Shea was named North Melbourne Best Young Player in 2022 and is currently playing in her third season in the AFLW.
Niamh Martin of Tipperary has had a good year with the Kangaroos having featured in 9 games throughout the season while Fermanagh sharpshooter Bláithín Bogue is a new signing with Brisbane.
TG4 will deliver live coverage of this much-anticipated event on the TG4 Player and TG4 App this Saturday morning from 08:30 Irish time, with the game kicking off at 08:45. For those who miss the live action, a deferred broadcast will air on TG4 television at 17:15.
This broadcast will be available exclusively on the island of Ireland, providing fans the chance to witness these Gaelic stars shine on one of the biggest stages in women’s sport.
