Ciara Mageean qualified for the final of the 1500 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Doha and in doing so, becomes the first Irish woman since 1997 to qualify for the 1500m.
Mageean was up in the first of the two semi-final heats. The top five athletes in each semi-final would be guaranteed a spot in Saturday’s final.
Mageean secured the final automatic qualifying place in her heat with a fifth-place finish, with a time of $4:15.49.
A beaming Mageean spoke to Athletics Ireland after her race.
"I'm going to battle to the line, every bloody position. I'm going to give it everything."
